What Does A Photo Session Look Like?
When you think of going for a portrait session, I’ll bet that you immediately think of the flashing lights, and the camera and the model-like posing. While that is part of it, a portrait session with me is more than just the actual photo shoot itself. Today I'm going to share the four parts to a successful photo session.
The first part of your portrait session is the Styling & Planning Appointment. I’d have to say that this is probably the most important part of your photo session because this is where we talk through exactly how you want to be photographed and how we are going to create it. We talk about the number one burning question on everyone’s mind…what to wear!!! We also talk about hairstyling, makeup, pre-session preparations, locations, backgrounds, what to bring, and more! There’s a lot to chat about! The other reason why this appointment is so important is that it gives us a chance to meet and get to know each other a little bit better, and that will help you feel much more relaxed on the day of your photo shoot. Your Styling & Planning Appointment is typically done on Zoom, but we can also have a phone conversation, or even meet in person.
The second part of your portrait session is your Hair & Makeup Appointments. These services are totally optional add-ons, but most of my clients do take advantage of them. Your day will start with a wash and style at a professional hair salon near my home studio. Next, you’ll come to my home studio and meet my very talented professional makeup artist who will ensure that you have beautiful makeup that will bring out your own unique beauty, and will be suitable for a natural light portrait session. Having your hair and makeup professionally done will no only make you feel beautiful and confident, it’s also part of the whole special experience that I highly recommend.
The third part of your portrait session is the actual Photo Shoot itself. I'll do my best to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera and will be guiding you through the entire photo shoot so you don't have to worry about how to stand, or where to put your hands. I’m trained in posing women of all shapes and sizes, so I will direct you through a variety of poses that are designed to make you look your very best! It’s a lot of fun and you’ll feel like a model for the day!
The fourth part of your portrait session is probably the most anticipated and exciting part of your session because you’ll get to see how gorgeous you look. About 2 -3 weeks after your photo shoot we will meet again on Zoom. for your Portrait Reveal & Ordering Appointment. This appointment starts with a wonderful video slide show where you’ll get to see all the fully retouched images from your session, and even a few behind-the-scenes images from your photo shoot day. Then you’ll have the chance to go through all of your images and select the ones that you love and would like to purchase. I offer digital images, portrait collections, and a variety or printed portraits. The nice thing about doing this together is that I can help guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
So, as you can see, there is a lot that goes into creating those beautiful portraits, but it is totally worth it! Not only is it a fun experience that you will remember for the rest of your life, it’s a chance to create some precious keepsake portraits for yourself and the people who love you.
