Winter Skin Care Made Simple

February can often feel long and dry. After months of cold air and indoor heating, many of us notice that our skin feels tight, dry, or just a bit lackluster. One of the easiest ways to care for your skin and yourself this month is through moisturizing.

Moisturizing matters even more after age 40 because our skin produces less natural moisture on its own. That means it can feel dry more often and show signs of dehydration faster than it used to. If you notice more fine lines in the winter, this is why. A good routine can help skin feel comfortable and look soft and healthy.

Why I Think Skincare Matters

As a photographer, I love capturing real people and real beauty. When skin feels hydrated and cared for, it reflects light more beautifully and tends to look smoother in photos. Well-hydrated skin also helps makeup apply more evenly and naturally, which makes a noticeable difference in how polished and fresh your portraits look. Healthy, moisturized skin can also mean less retouching is needed afterward, allowing your photos to look more natural and truly like you.

But skincare is not just about the final image. When clients take a moment for themselves and pay attention to how their skin feels, it often shows in how relaxed and confident they are in front of the camera. I want you to feel good in your own skin, because that confidence always makes every photo better.

A Simple Daily Moisturizing Routine

Here is a straightforward moisturizing routine you can follow morning and night. The idea is to keep it simple so it feels like a relaxing habit you enjoy, not a chore.

Morning Routine

  1. Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser to start fresh and remove any overnight buildup.

  2. Hydrate with a mist like Hyaluronic Moisture Mist from Counter. This adds a little extra moisture while your skin is still damp.

  3. Apply a serum like Tri-Luronic Hydrating Serum to help draw hydration deep into your skin.

  4. Moisturize with a light lotion such as Adaptive Moisture Lotion to lock in that hydration.

  5. If you’re heading outside, finish with a sunscreen or a moisturizer that includes SPF to protect your skin from sun damage.

Evening Routine

  1. Cleanse your face again to remove makeup, sunscreen, and any impurities from the day.

  2. Hydrate with the mist if your skin feels dry.

  3. Follow with serum like you did in the morning to support hydration overnight.

  4. Moisturize with a richer cream such as Antioxidant Soft Cream or Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream. These are a bit more nourishing and can really help skin feel soft by morning.

  5. If you like, add a gentle eye cream like Ultra Renewal Eye Cream to help the delicate skin around your eyes feel cared for.

This routine is simple, but it gives your skin a little extra love twice a day.

A Little Extra Thought

Taking this time for yourself in February can help you feel a little more cared for from the inside out. Moisturizing is one of the easiest ways to support comfortable, healthy-feeling skin, and it also fits well into preparing for a session in front of my camera when you want your skin to feel its best.
