The Alexander Family: A Neighbourhood Friendship Captured in Fall Colors
Some families just make you feel lucky to know them—and the Alexanders are exactly that kind of family. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mike for years. He started out as the single guy next door, then married his beautiful wife Dena, and together they’ve raised their son, Andrew, who unbelievably is now in high school. TIme sure flies!! Watching their family grow over the years has been such a joy.
Mike has always been the kind of neighbour everyone hopes for. He’s tolerated my kids as they went from rowdy school aged kids, to rowdy young adults with good humor. As it that wasn’t enought, he’s offered his garage full of every tool imaginable, and always steps in to help whenever we need a hand. It’s rare to find someone so generous with their time and energy—and in many ways, photographing his family felt like capturing a piece of my own community story. He’s friendly, outgoing, and I’m pretty sure everyone on our block knows him.
We chose Edworthy Park in Calgary for their fall session, and it did not disappoint. The crisp autumn air, the golden leaves, and the calm of the park created the perfect backdrop for the Alexander family. Andrew even brought a couple of friends along to throw a football with during down time, while Mike and Dena’s warmth and connection made every moment feel natural and relaxed.
Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. It’s about more than capturing smiles—it’s about celebrating relationships, milestones, and the special bonds that make a family who they are. For the Alexanders, every frame tells a story of love, laughter, and a lifetime of neighborly kindness.
