A Scottish-Inspired Engagement Session in Banff, Alberta
Some sessions will forever hold a special place in my heart — and this one tops the list. ❤️
Recently, I had the honor of photographing my daughter, Hannah, and her fiancé, Rudy, for their engagement session in the beautiful Banff and Canmore area of Alberta. As a Calgary photographer — and as her mom — this shoot was a full-circle moment. Hannah has been my model and muse since she was a preemie newborn, so capturing this new chapter of her life was incredibly emotional and meaningful.
A Touch of Scotland in the Rockies
Hannah and Rudy wanted their engagement photos to have a romantic, Scottish-inspired feel — moody stone textures, misty mountain backdrops, and that timeless storybook charm. So we packed up the camera gear and headed west to Banff National Park, one of Alberta’s most breathtaking destinations for photography sessions.
Our first stop was Bow Falls, just below the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The sound of rushing water and the dramatic mountain backdrop created the perfect setting for their vision — rugged yet romantic.
Banff Springs Hotel Magic
Next, we made our way to the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, affectionately known as the “Castle in the Rockies.” With its historic stone walls and grand architecture, it was exactly the look they wanted — something that felt like a scene straight out of Scotland. The light, the texture, and the quiet moments made this part of the shoot pure magic.
Golden Hour in Canmore
As we wrapped up the day, we made a spontaneous stop in Canmore to catch the last bit of sunlight. The mountains glowed and Hannah and Rudy ran, spun, and laughed their way through the golden hour. It was the perfect ending — carefree, joyful, and completely them.
Why I Love Shooting in Banff and Canmore
This session will always be one of my favorites — not because of the location, but because of the people in front of my camera. 💕
Banff will always hold special memories for our family, and photographing Hannah and Rudy there was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll treasure forever.
